Our Novel  Heritage

Before romance became a widely accepted genre, people would judge romance readers for reading "trash" or "smut" in public. But in the 1930s, British publisher Mills & Boon began releasing hardback romance novels with discreet brown binding. When this binding technique caught on with other publishers, romance readers felt comfortable enjoying their favorite books without scrutiny.

So, the Brown Book Series pays homage to Mills & Boon for helping romance become as popular as it is today.
